ROYAL TIN for MARKS & SPENCERS

I am happy to unveil the latest in my collection of commemorative packaging for Marks & Spencers. This is the third in a series of Royal collectable tins I have illustrated for the British high street store (previous tins here) and celebrates the up-coming 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. One more of my Royal tins will be hitting the shelves in a few months…any guesses what important event that might be celebrating?!

THE NATIONAL – Abu Dhabi

Having worked out in the Middle East for the past 3 years, it was a treat to be asked by The National newspaper in Abu Dhabi to design their anniversary advertisement for press and outdoor. Today the paper has reached the grand old age of 5 years and are celebrating with a look back at how the country has changed over the years – from wind blown desert to shiny cities of opportunity!

Children’s Classics – The Jungle Book

Sorry it has been ages since I posted some new work – this spring has been a busy time for me but I have tons of exciting new projects to show off! The postman just delivered some more in my range of leather-bound children’s classics for Barnes and Noble: The Jungle Book, The Blue Fairy and Greek Myths. The Jungle Book has always been a favourite of mine so now I am excited about reading this beauty to my little nephews.

See more from my series of covers here and here.

BARCLAYS: Lettering in 13 languages.

Although most of my work contains hand lettering, it’s pretty rare that I get to draw foreign scripts so this Christmas campaign for Barclays was a dream come true. My original paper cut design – a mixture of lettering and illustration – had to be translated into 13 different languages including Arabic (above,) Chinese (below,) Hebrew and Russian. Another demand of the job was the need to be politically correct in terms of Christmas imagery so I was to design the paper border without using: Religious imagery, Santa, reindeer, snow (!), christmas trees(!), snowmen, stars, presents or decorations. So the challenge was to make it suitably festive using only trees, robins and holly with a smooth paper finish. It was tough, but I’m pretty happy with the result.

Leather bound children’s classics for Barnes & Noble

This has to be one of my all time favourite projects! Here are the latest in a series of 9 leather bound children’s classics I have designed for Barnes and Noble. So far six have been published – including A Little Princess, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Wind in the Willows. Three more will be out next year. The books are beautifully bound in leather with embossed illustrations and silver foiling and really were a dream to work on.
