The Art of Ping Pong

November 16th, 2015

I’m still recovering from the private view of The Art of Ping Pong; a most excellent annual project devised by the chaps at fivefootsix design to raise money for Children in Need. Each artist was given a blank ping pong paddle and asked to transform it into a unique piece of art to be auctioned off for this worthy cause. I was flattered to be asked to take part alongside some personal illustration heroes of mine (Petra Borner, Noma Bar, Anthony Burrill etc) and decided on this typographic approach. It was an opportunity for me to experiment with a new technique so my lettering was laser cut in four different types of wood and then inlaid and set onto the flat surface of the bat. All the paddles are still up for grabs on the website here for a few more weeks. The exhibition will be up at KK Outlet in Hoxton until the end of the month and there’s a nice little write-up on Cool Hunting website too.
